Crochet Queen: Royal Ramblings

My family moved to Quito Ecuador in 1988 for my husband's job with J. I. Case farm and industrial equipment. During the two years we lived in Quito, the capitol city, I was privileged to explore and learn about the amazing artisan culture and history of the country.   I’m indebted to the American & Canadian Women’s Group; my landlady, Irma; and Carmen, the Director of the clinic where I volunteered. Without their knowledge & willingness to share, I would not have been able to access many of the “out-of-the-way” villages where I  investigated the rich textile folk art of generous indigenous artisans!

Poetic Crochet I often say about crochet, “There is nothing new under the sun,” because I’ve been at it for over forty years!  Theme books like this book's title intrigue me because again, it is difficult for me to find books that offer truly new and creative twists to all the crocheting I’ve done over these many years. 

Tunisian Shawls Having reviewed more than one of Sharon’s books, I could predict that this latest one is a worthwhile addition to anyone’s crochet library. Especially suited to those who want to experience Tunisian crochet and learn more about it, she includes 8 different shawls using yarn ranging from fine to bulky. A nice touch is the variety of shawls for all seasons. You’ll be kept busy crocheting and learning throughout the year!

Monday, October 21, 2013 Much as I hate to see the vibrant colors, invigorating air and doses of sunshine on the shoulders come to an end, it is also fun to pull out last year's scarves, cowls and shawls in anticipation of wrapping up for cozy days and nights of crocheting. Paisley Cowl-2013 Seven paisleys were languishing in the "deal-with-this-later" pile when the President of my CGOA chapter offered up a UFO Challenge. I didn't win the $50.00 drawing, but I got a new cowl finished! To "wrap up" news of my autumn activities, all I can say is it has been quite hectic.
