I Love It When A Plan Comes Together

Thursday, September 15, 2011
As I mentioned last week, I had a lot of projects in the works and they were bound to come together sooner or later. Here's what I've finished since last we chatted.
Nellie Necklace. Made with stash yarn, this mixed-media necklace is embellished with a polyclay flower by "Nellie." I don't remember who Nellie is or where I got it, so it is particularly thrilling to finally put this beautiful flower to use!
Earrings for Sylvia. She and I are bartering Crochet for knit!

Earrings for Deb. She bought the focal bead and seed beads and commissioned me to make the earrings.
Bear-themed diaper cover & hat for Jack!

Coin Purse for Sylvia. I owe her big time! She uses Noro!

Tonight I will bring a new crocheter into the world. My young friend, Ashley, is turning 30 next June and she is expanding her horizons in the 52 weeks that precede this momentous occasion. She calls it "365 days of Ashley." She called on 52 of her best friends to provide her with a challenge that she must carry out each week. She drew my challenge this week and we are meeting tonight at my local yarn store for her crochet lesson. I definitely believe that learning to crochet will expand Ashley's horizons in ways she can't even imagine. She does happen to be anurse so she will definitely ujnderstand and appreciate the therapeutic benefits of crocheting. She has a high-profile job and will definitely find this the perfect way to wind down and relax after a hard day at work!

National Crochet Month: A Fibery Celebration!

Crocheters across the nation have gotten creative in finding ways to celebrate their beloved craft during the month of March for National Crochet Month. Started originally as National Crochet Week by the Crochet Guild of America in 1997,  it has grown and grown and there is so much to celebrate that CGOA changed it to a monthlong event a few years later. Fibery people, CGOA members, and companies large and small are on the bandwagon now to draw attention to all we love about crochet!

What did you do to celebrate? I'm sure we educated many, many of the unenlightened during March ~ but calm down, Ryan...no physical violence allowed; just threaten with a crochet hook!

The Northern IL Chapter of CGOA has wrapped up its celebration  with our annual Crochet Buffet. It is always a feast for the senses and a smorgasbord for the eyes! Thank you to all the chapter members who displayed their beautiful crochet! We also filled the library showcase where we meet with crochet during the month.
